Hailing from Eugene with a recent extended musical sojourn in Los Angeles, Shelley and Cal have been performing all along the west coast since 1993. Beyond their work on their own, through their bands Pyramid Breakfast and Shelley James' music box, they have leant their soulful, healing, intelligent jazz/blues/gospel/pop talents to local favorites Satin Love Orchestra and the Floydian Slips and, while in LA, with Sheila E., Pete Escovedo, Jonathan Butler and others.
Canadian born, Shelley grew up singing 4-part harmony with her family, touring western Canada. She developed her pop singing through her teens and then studied music seriously in college, touring the club circuit in the Pacific Northwest upon graduation. Cal grew up in a musical family also, performing from a young age as well. He developed his bass chops playing in jazz/blues, reggae, and soul groups before and after college and later met Shelley.
Shelley doesn't so much sing her new songs as effortlessly surround them with a passion so soothing, so rich, they seemingly melt...but not before reaching in and touching your soul. Weaving a tapestry of musical influences from pop, rock, R&B, soul, gospel and jazz, Shelley branches out into diverse vocal territory to create a thoughtfully crafted album with definite cross-genre appeal, one she hopes true music fans will appreciate for its classic sensibility.
