“Since the advent of Benny Goodman, there have been too few clarinetists to fill the void that Goodman left. Ken Peplowski is most
certainly one of those few. The man is magic.” – Mel Tormé
"Goodman Straight Up, with a twist of lightning." – The New York Times
“These quotes only hint at Ken Peplowski’s virtuosity - not only is he an outstanding clarinetist and saxophone player, but he's also a charismatic entertainer who has been delighting audiences for over 30 years with his warmth, wit, and musicianship.” Sound Authors Radio
“Ken Peplowski is a clarinet virtuoso, with a tone of such warmth and beauty that it takes only a few bars to create a feel-good atmosphere, either in performance or, as he ably demonstrates on In Search Of ..., in the studio. Although Peplowski has over 20 albums to his name as leader, he's still experimenting, still trying out new ideas—still, presumably, in search of something.” – Bruce Lindsay, All About Jazz
Renowned jazz clarinetist and saxophonist Ken Peplowski returns to The Shedd for another mid-winter evening of straight-ahead, standards-based jazz as only he can deliver it. This year joined by Ted Rosenthal, Tyler Abbot and Todd Strait, Ken builds the evening from the catalogs of the great 1920s cornetist Bix Beiderbecke and friend Hoagy Carmichael. Look for such classics as period “Georgia On My Mind”, “Clarinet Marmalade”, “Jazz Me Blues”, “Louisiana”, “Star Dust”, “There Ain’t No Man That’s Worth The Salt of My Tears”, “Riverboat Shuffle”, “I Get Along Without You Very Well”, “Ole Buttermilk Sky”, “Two Lazy People” and more. Should be another awesome evening, as always!
