Joshua Redman exploded onto the jazz scene in 1991 after winning the prestigious Thelonius Monk competition and was voted Best New Artist by the Jazz Times readers’ poll in 1992. With 10 albums and two seasons as Artistic Director for San Francisco Jazz, Redman, a Harvard graduate and son of celebrated tenorman Dewey Redman, has been dubbed the "the crown prince of the tenor saxophone" by the Associated Press. On his latest release, Elastic, Redman takes a new direction with funk, fusion and R&B grooves. He appears at the Shedd on November 5th with trio members Sam Yahel on keyboard and Ari Hoenig on drums.
