In an appropriate, almost gentle finale to an extremely rich week of music, music director Michael Doucet and conductor James Paul will bring the strains of the bayou and Acadiana prairie together with the beauty and richness of the orchestral concert hall in a tribute to the long history of French Acadian music. Opening the concert Doucet is assisted by fellow BeauSoleil band members as he traces the history of Cajun music from its routes in medieval France to its final home in southwest Louisiana. James Paul and the Festival Symphony Orchestra will then take over the story with the performance of Virgil Thomson’s score for the film The Louisiana Story, which he based on the Cajun music transcriptions Louisiana folklorist Irene Whitfield.
