Over the past several seasons we have been devoting one of our shows to a composer and lyricist team. So far we have explored the music of Arthur Freed and Nacio Herb Brown, DeSylva Brown and Henderson, and Harry Warren and Al Dubin. This season Jesse Cloninger and The Jazz Kings will be delving into the songs with lyrics by the great Dorothy Fields. With over 400 songs for musicals and films to her name, Fields was one of the first female songwriters to be successful Broadway, Tin Pan Alley and Hollywood, collaborating throughout her career with various influential figures in the American musical theater, including Jimmy McHugh, Jerome Kern, Irving Berlin, and Cy Coleman. This show will be full of classics such as: “The Way You Look Tonight”, “Pick Yourself Up”, “On The Sunny Side Of The Street”, “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love”, “Exactly Like You”, and “Diga Diga Doo".
