Lynnea Barry welcomes Bill Hulings and a fine "theatrical" pit ensemble for an exploration and celebration of Broadway during what was the Golden Age of musical revue and the early, formative years of the musical comedy, two inter-related worlds of the 1920s New York entertainment industry which were so important to the creation of what is often referred to today as the Great American Songbook.
Stairway To Paradise is one of 2 OFAM 2022 Winter concerts presented twice:
Matinee: Fri, Mar 4, 1:30 pm
Evening: Sat, Mar 5, 7:30 pm
This unique, wonderfully lighthearted song form, with infectious music and often witty, playful lyrics, captured the imagination of the English-speaking world both in American and Great Britain, and, with development of the increasingly powerful non-stage distribution channels (sheet music, records, radio and film), defined popular music for over half a century and beyond.
This concert puts especial emphasis on those 1920s songs which have remained with us a hundred years later, as well as an intriguing selection of "hidden gems" which offer insight into what Broadway in the 1920s was all about!
