Of the many jazz and popular music vocalists Shirley Andress has created projects around over the years two in particular came to her mind as we discussed the art of the well-turned interpretation of the Classic Songbook and jazz standards: June Christy (1925-90) and Peggy Lee. (1920-2002) They were exceptionally good at taking Classic songs and shaping them both musically -and emotionally into remarkable and enduring covers.
