Background, professional training and performance history
Megan is a spirited violinist and music educator. As a firm believer that performance ability is key in effective music teaching, she is currently completing her master’s degree in violin performance and pedagogy at the University of Oregon under the tutelage of Fritz Gearhart and Lillian Manis, respectively. She received her bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas where she also worked closely with DeAnn Letourneau, concertmaster of the Las Vegas Philharmonic.
Megan has served as principal second violin in the University of Oregon Symphony Orchestra and the UNLV Symphony Orchestra. In Spring 2017 she was fortunate to be a part of the premier of composer Kenji Bunch’s The Snow Queen with Orchestra NEXT and the Eugene Ballet. In a more casual setting, she has had memorable experiences performing at the Bunkhouse, Griffin, and Brooklyn Bowl in Las Vegas. While she calls Las Vegas home, she has grown very fond of the Pacific Northwest. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and goldendoodle
Artist statement and teaching philosophy
As a teacher, I strive to be the best possible resource to my students. In lessons I like to focus on developing good technique while fostering the student’s overall musicianship through a healthy balance of basic music theory, scales, etudes, and repertoire. If my students find joy and inspiration through music, I believe that they will excel the most. Whatever my students goals may be, I want to help them feel successful and proud of the music they create.
