Keegan is a classically trained percussionist who has been studying various styles of music for 13 years. His first instrument was the drum set, he later picked up classical, world, and marching percussion. While he is a well-rounded percussionist who can teach most any percussive musical interest, He specializes in mallet percussion (xylophone, vibraphone, and marimba) Keegan has traveled the country with his music, marching Drum Corps International in 2019. Keegan is currently pursuing a percussion performance degree from the University of Oregon, studying directly under Pius Cheung. Prior to his undergraduate education, he taught several incoming freshmen entering the Hebron High School percussion section, setting them up for high school and collegiate success in a very demanding musical environment. He is a resident percussionist with the Eugene Ballet, Orchestra Next, and several classical ensembles within the University of Oregon.
I believe that no two students are the same and that each student should be taught based on their own strengths, weaknesses, and interests. A truly individualistic musician will not develop a sound unique to them under instruction that was crafted for just any student. In lessons I will tailor a curriculum that targets my student's weakness and highlights music that interests them, making them more likely to want to continue studying music. Teaching in this manner will help students develop their own musical language and help them stand out on any stage they may perform on.
Mallet percussion (marimba, vibraphone, xylophone. Basic tonal music theory, scales and chords, reading music, and introduction of approachable rep)
Hand drums (bongos, congas, cajon, learning to interact with other musicians and have a solid internal pulse)
World percussion (all the little toys of percussion, shakers and accessories how to add textures to an ensemble)
Drum set (rock, funk, R&B, jazz, ensemble skills)
Classical percussion (how to be a productive member of an orchestral percussion section, snare drum, timpani, bass drum, how to gig)
Iām comfortable teaching all age ranges
