Originally from Oregon, Matt Shevitz has been living in Chicago since September 2001. Throughout his music career he has performed alongside such internationally renowned jazz musicians as Dick Hyman, Bucky Pizzarelli, Johnny Frigo, Marvin Stamm, Bill Watrous, Frank Capp, Randy Sandke, Scott Robinson, Ken Peplowski, and Frank Wess among others.

Following the completion of his bachelor’s degree from the University of Oregon, Matt worked for Oregon Festival of American Music for almost two and a half years. During this time he held two positions, the American Music Institute Program Coordinator and the Jazz Orchestra Manager. In August of 2001, Matt was a member of a small jazz combo put together by Dick Hyman that performed the world premier of From Chama To Cumbres By Steam, a piece written by Dick Hyman and conducted by Maestro James Paul for small jazz combo and symphony-orchestra. He has also recorded on the Emerald City Jazz Kings recordings Bixology, the New Yorkers, and Puttin’ On The Ritz as well as Don Latarski’s Natural Instincts, and Don Latarski & Rue de Blues with Marilyn Keller Eden Hall Sessions.

Currently, Matt is the Coordinator of Music and a full-time music instructor at Harold Washington College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago. In addition to his job and his family, he has also been busy performing throughout the Midwest at various clubs and festivals. He has performed at such venues as the Green Mill, Green Dolphin Street, Buddy Guy’s Legends, the Jazz in the Park festival, and the Chicago Blues Festival.
