Born and raised in New York City, Maude Maggart is the first daughter of Broadway veterans Brandon Maggart and Diane McAfee, and the sister of songwriter Fiona Apple. She began her career in cabaret in March 2001 in West Hollywood, California at Tom Rolla’s Gardenia; the legendary launching pad of her mentors, Andrea Marcovicci and Michael Feinstein.
Fostered by Marcovicci and Feinstein, Miss Maggart was introduced to cabaret society, appearing as protégée at various venues around the United States; notably Feinstein’s at the Regency in Manhattan, the Plush Room in San Francisco, and the Oak Room at The Algonquin Hotel in Manhattan.
Miss Maggart has since held extended engagements at The Gardenia, The Plush Room, Danny’s Skylight Room (Manhattan), The Royal Room (Palm Beach), and The Oak Room –where she will return for a two-week engagement in September 2005. In all locations she has garnered all-around top critical acclaim (The New York Times, Time Out New York, The Village Voice, Backstage, etc.) and also feature stories in The San Francisco Chronicle, Time Out New York, and the Boca Raton News for her tribute to the women of the nineteen-twenties: Shaking the Blues Away: a 1920s Cabaret, and for It’s The Talk of The Town: A 1933 Songbook.
In 2005 Maude Maggart was the recipient of the Backstage Ira Eaker Award for Special Achievement, The T.O.N.Y. award for Special Achievement in Cabaret, and the M.A.C. award for Best Female Debut.
This past April, Miss Maggart was invited by Garrison Keillor to appear at Town Hall in New York City for the radio broadcast of his legendary program: A Prairie Home Companion. She was subsequently invited to join Keillor again for the June 4th program, live from The Hollywood Bowl. In May, Miss Maggart performed in the LAByrinth Theatre Company’s benefit program OBSESSION, curated and directed by John Patrick Shanley in New York City, and in November she will co-star in the Lyrics and Lyricist series edition on Kurt Weill, directed by Andrea Marcovicci for the 92nd Street Y.
Following her engagement at The Oak Room at The Algonquin Hotel, Miss Maggart will for her fifth consecutive invitation to The Mabel Mercer Foundation’s Cabaret Convention at Lincoln Center.
Maude Maggart lives in Venice, California and in New York City.
