Among other accolades, Tony placed 1st in the Jazz Division of the National Trumpet Competition in March of 2014 and has been recognized and awarded by Downbeat Jazz & Blues Magazine for several outstanding improvisational performances and for his small ensemble composition, "Something to be Remembered For"—the opening track from his debut record, Identity Crisis. He is also the honorary recipient of the 2016-17 Laurie Frink Career Grant.

Tony Glausi grew up in a musical family, immersed in a creative environment. He was exposed to music of all genres, developing an affinity for classical music, swing era jazz, R&B, and gospel hymns. At a very young age he taught himself to play his favorite melodies on the piano by ear and later developed these abilities through advanced studies in piano performance and theory. A trumpeter and composer by the age of ten, it wasn’t until late in high school that Tony began to focus on jazz and improvisation.

Playing over one hundred shows last year, and having recorded on over a dozen released records, Tony currently maintains a full schedule as an active performer and recording artist, working first-hand with musical greats such as virtuoso jazz pianist George Colligan, reggae legend Norma Fraser, jazz saxophonist Todd DelGiudice, and British indie pop-star Ruth Theodore. Tony also leads his own jazz quintet and nine-piece funk band, both of which play entirely original music. As a composer, Tony takes inspiration from his earliest musical influences while also channeling current trends in the music scene. He has now written over fifty works for small jazz groups, five works for large jazz ensembles, over a dozen works for various chamber ensembles, ten works for nine-piece funk band, four pop songs, many original arrangements of jazz tunes and other pre-existing melodies, and soundtrack music for several short films and TV web series. His pieces have been commissioned for ensembles throughout Oregon and featured in numerous concerts and festivals.

With a bachelor's degree in jazz performance from the University of Oregon, Tony is continuing his studies at the UO as a graduate teaching assistant while pursuing his master's in jazz composition and studying privately with Brian McWhorter and Steve Owen. As a student there, Tony composes for and performs and records with university ensembles including the prestigious Oregon Jazz Ensemble, the JazzArts Oregon Combo, the UO Trumpet Ensemble, and the university’s premier brass quintet. He is also actively involved with other Oregon-based groups including Red Pants Trio, OrchestraNEXT, Beta Collide, and the Eugene Composer’s Big Band.

A passionate and devoted music educator as well, Tony works for the University of Oregon, the John G. Shedd Institute for the Arts, and in communities both local and abroad. He teaches a variety of classes, maintains a private lesson studio, and consistently engages with middle schools, high schools, colleges, and summer camps throughout the Pacific Northwest.
