Lynn Seaton has had a stellar career as a jazz bassist. Born in the USA in Oklahoma in 1957, he started playing bass at age 9. By the late 70s he was performing around the state. He joined the Woody Herman Band in 1984, and subsequently enjoyed extended tours with the Count Basie Orchestra, Tony Bennett, George Shearing, Monty Alexander and Jeff Hamilton. Residing in New York from 1986 – 1998, he freelanced with countless major jazz artists, including Thad Jones, Maria Schneider, Diane Schuur, Mel Torme, John Fedchock, Frank Wess, Teddy Wilson and many others. In 1998, Seaton accepted an offer to join the faculty at the University of North Texas. Lynn has appeared on over 125 recordings including 2 Grammy nominated ones and one Grammy winner. He has five recordings as a leader. He remains in demand as a freelancer, and is sought out internationally for clinics, directing big bands, workshops, and performing as a soloist and with his own trio. He was inducted into the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame, the Cincinnati, Ohio Jazz Hall of Fame, honored as a Sammons Artist of the year, named a Sigma Alpha Iota National Arts Associate, and selected to be a Fulbright Scholar to teach in Riga, Latvia.
