American musicologist, ethnomusicologist, and administrator. McLucas studied piano with, among others, Antonia Brico and made her debut in Denver in 1960 as soloist in Beethoven’s Choral Fantasia. She was awarded a performance certificate from the Mozarteum Akademie (Salzburg, Austria, 1963), and earned degrees from the University of Colorado (BA, Italian and German, 1965) and Harvard University (MA, 1968, and PhD, musicology, 1975). Her most important teachers were Albert Lord, John Ward, and Charles Seeger. McLucas taught at Harvard University (1969–71, 1979–87); Boston College (1971–2, 1988–92), where she established and chaired the Music Department; Wellesley College (1974–80), Colorado College (1987–8), and the University of Oregon (1989–), where she was Dean of the School of Music from 1992–2002.
