Early 1959 was a momentous time for Miles Davis and John Coltrane. In March and April, Davis recorded his best-known album, "Kind of Blue", featuring Coltrane, Bill Evans and Cannonball Adderley. In May, Coltrane recorded his famous "Giant Steps" album, whose title composition became one of the most challenging pieces in the jazz repertoire. For this concert, Carl Woideck and an all-star sextet will revisit and re-imagine all five of the pieces on Kind of Blue (including "So What" and "Flamenco Sketches") plus one or two re-arrangements of "Giant Steps". Rounding out the concert will be a dramatic video of Davis and Coltrane playing "So What" live on television.
