Chico Schwall returns to the Jaqua Concert Hall with "Chamber Music with Mr. Chico", a showcase of a number of musical groups, some of them working bands, some of them his favorite jamming circles. It won't be chamber music in the classical sense, but small group combinations of mostly acoustic instruments and voices. We'll get a taste of new line-up of the Chico Schwall Group, a combination of two previous groups, the Schwall Street Journal and the Axes of Evil String Quartet. Back from two years ago will be Amy Danziger on cello and Jim Hershey on bass, as well as other local musical luminaries. We'll hear some of the material from Chico's next CD project and get a peek at the first stages of his Celtic Banjo project, O'Carolan's Nightmare. As Chico puts it himself, "We'll cover the bases in a genre-defying tightrope walk over Folk Music Falls: some Irish music, American Roots, Labor movement music, my own songs, old time southern fiddle tunes, ukulele, slide guitar, a taste of Balkan trad sounds and contemporary global acoustic currents. You could call it Country and Eastern. Songs and instrumentals, time-worn and improvised."
