"My. What marvellous diction that girl has" Cole Porter.
While she is renowned among jazz aficionados for her vocal stylings and scat singing, Ella Fitzgerald's general fame is certainly due, rather, to the 8 Songbook projects she did with Norman Granz at Verve, beginning with the 1956 Ella Fitzgerald Sings The Cole Porter Songbook. The style is pure, brilliantly phrased, and utterly respectful of the melody and lyric. Inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2000, the album was one of the 50 included in the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry in 2003.
For this concert, Siri Vik has selected 15 of the two-album's 35 songs.
