Renowned jazz clarinetist and saxophonist Ken Peplowski returns to The Shedd for a mid-winter special evening of standards-based jazz as only Ken can do it. He is joined by the New York pianist and OFAM regular Ted Rosenthal, Gary Hobbs on drums, Dave Captein on bass, and Siri Vik, who lends her vocal prowess to this stellar line-up.
Most of Ken’s work with The Shedd over the years has been as jazz director of Oregon Festival of American Music and the Jazz Party at The Shedd, the former being The Shedd’s thematically-based 20-year-old historic jazz and classic songbook festival, the latter being our periodic dip into a form of standards-based improvisational jamming that only a handful of working jazz musicians can do. Ken’s stop at The Shedd on February 11th will feel close to both projects, but will focus specifically on his personal jazz style as developed and memorialized through his 20 recordings, most recently Noir Blue (2010) and In Search Of… (2011). Ken asks the stunning vocalist Siri Vik to join him for an elegant and exhilarating evening of music making of the highest order.
