For Oregon Festival of American Music 2014’s gala opener, Ken Peplowski and his jazz unit join Jesse Cloninger and The Emerald City Jazz Kings–featuring Shirley Andress, Bill Hulings and Bob Cross–in an evening of big band swing loaded with classics from the 1940s, in particular from the libraries of Count Basie, Woody Herman, Les Brown, Glenn Miller, Cab Calloway, Duke Ellington, Lionel Hampton, Artie Shaw, Tommy Dorsey, and Benny Goodman, in a solid mix of instrumentals and vocals, ensemble and solo improv. Look for Swing Era hits like “Don’t Be That Way”, “Apple Honey”, “Stompin’ At The Savoy”, “Drum Boogie”, “One O’Clock Jump”, “Leap Frog”, “It Don’t Mean A Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing)”, “I’ll Never Smile Again” and many more!
