“Their music sparkles with virtuosity and foot-tapping joie de vivre” -- London Evening Standard
Traditional Balkan music–without the heavy brass. Five-member Hungarian ensemble Söndörgo is a tamburitza band representing the best of Southern Slavic folk music. Hailed as “one of Europe’s most versatile and exciting bands,” (Songlines Magazine) Söndörgo’s repertoire includes pieces gathered by Béla Bartók, Tihamér Vujicsics, and other greats from their country’s traditional heritage. Centered on the mandolin-esque tambura, their performances also include accordion and wind instruments. With their goal of sharing “the delicate beauty and fizzing power of a different Balkan sound,” Söndörgo’s captivating performance opens the door to this little-known world and offers a deeper appreciation for the diversity of Hungarian music.
