Tin Pan Alley produced teams of words men and melody men who created many worthless songs but also ones that would last forever, standards. Chief among the composers were Walter Donaldson and Harry Warren. Both graduated onto Broadway and into movies, but cut their teeth on one-off hit numbers. Donaldson started before the great war, with songs about Dixie and then about the returning soldiers: "How Ya Gonna Keep 'Em Down On The Farm?" In the jazz age he contributed "Yes Sir That's My Baby " and "My Blue Heaven". On Broadway he contributed "Love Me Or Leave Me'. Warren made his mark in musicals choreographed by Busby Berkeley. Both men were innovators and together wrote as many hit songs as more celebrated Broadway composers like Gershwin and Kern.
