Formed in the fall of 2003, the Dan Tepfer Trio has quickly risen to the international stage with a European tour as well as U.S. engagements during the summer of 2004. With a unique mix of original compositions and new arrangements of jazz standards that emphasize improvisational freedom, the trio has enjoyed a terrific audience response, translating into sold-out club dates as well as a significant presence on American and French jazz radio. They operate within a strict harmonic and rhythmic esthetic that has as much to do with Tepfer’s studies with Danilo Pérez as with his classical training at the Paris Conservatoire. Drummer Richie Barshay’s experience of multiple U.S. engagements and European Tour with Herbie Hancock gives him an unparalleled rhythmic assurance that is a vital part of the group sound. Jorge Roeder, on double bass, completes the picture with a virtuosic continuous dialogue with both the piano and drums.
