How could we have avoided doing a program on this most prolific and long-lived composer for so long? Well, we haven’t really ignored him -- we have included many Berlin numbers in our various programs. But we haven’t examined the full range of his songs, ranging from "Alexander's Ragtime Band" in 1911 to the songs from the musical Mr. President in 1962. Nobody really knows how many songs he wrote. There are some 900 copyrighted Berlin songs, although many unofficial estimates, including those by Berlin himself, put the total somewhere in the thousands. In any case, there are songs of every conceivable style, and we'll bring you the best of them!
